The Julia J. Hyslop Research Center and Helen Nettleton Library
The Owyhee County Historical Museums’ mission is to establish itself as the premier and most comprehensive repository and research center for the history and prehistory of the Owyhee County region.
We are actively acquiring materials from esteemed regional historians and authors to enhance our information base. Our collections encompass the photograph and document collections of three prolific regional historians and authors, Mildretta Adams, Julia Conway Welch, and Julie Hyslop. These women were exceptional researchers and writers with a fervent dedication to documenting local history. Each produced multiple volumes of the finest local and regional histories of the Owyhee County.
Supported by these and other collections, OCHS is committied to collecting, preserving, and disseminating the history of this illustrious region.
Both the Library and Archives are accessible for research and study, but all visits require prior appointment. Please contact us by phone (208) 495-2319 or email to schedule an appointment.
